Pakistani Passport and Maldives: Visa on Arrival
Pakistani citizens do not need to apply for a Maldives visa in advance. The Maldives offers a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival to Pakistani passport holders at Velana International Airport (VIA) in Male — no prior application, no embassy visit, no fee.
Visa type: Tourist Visa on Arrival | Duration: 30 days | Cost: Free | Where: Male Airport (VIA) | Pakistani passport: Eligible
This visa-free access is one of the biggest advantages the Maldives has over other luxury destinations for Pakistani travellers. You can book your holiday and travel without any of the usual visa stress that comes with Europe, the USA, or even Australia.
What Documents Do You Need?
Even though there is no prior visa application, you should carry these documents when you travel:
- Valid Pakistani passport — minimum 6 months validity from your date of entry
- Return or onward ticket — proof that you are leaving the Maldives (your return flight booking)
- Accommodation confirmation — your hotel or resort booking confirmation
- Sufficient funds — immigration may ask. Credit card or USD cash both work
- Yellow fever certificate — only required if you are travelling from a country with yellow fever risk (not applicable when travelling directly from Pakistan)
Tip from our Karachi team: Print your resort booking confirmation and return flight. Maldives immigration occasionally asks to see these at the counter. Having them printed saves time and avoids phone battery anxiety after a long flight.
The Arrival Process at Male Airport
Here is exactly what happens when you land at Velana International Airport:
- Collect your baggage from the carousel
- Join the immigration queue — there is a separate line for visa on arrival passengers
- Present your Pakistani passport, return ticket and hotel confirmation
- Your passport is stamped with a 30-day tourist visa — free of charge
- Proceed to the arrivals hall where your resort transfer will be waiting
The entire immigration process typically takes 20-40 minutes depending on how busy the airport is. Early morning international arrivals tend to be quickest.
Can the Visa Be Extended?
Yes. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you can extend your Maldives tourist visa at the Department of Immigration in Male. Extensions are granted up to a maximum total stay of 90 days. There is a small extension fee. Our team can advise on the process if you are planning a longer stay.
Common Questions from Pakistani Travellers
Can I travel to Maldives with an expired Pakistani NICOP?
No — you must travel on a valid Pakistani passport, not NICOP alone. Ensure your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining on your date of travel.
Do children need their own passport?
Yes. Each traveller — including infants — needs their own valid Pakistani passport. Children cannot be listed on a parent passport for Maldives entry.
Is there a departure tax from Maldives?
Yes — there is a departure tax called the Airport Development Fee, currently $30 per person. This is usually included in your airline ticket price. Check your booking confirmation to confirm.
Can I work in Maldives on a tourist visa?
No — the tourist visa on arrival is strictly for tourism. Working in the Maldives requires a separate work permit arranged through your employer.
